This policy explains what information is processed by the website ortodoxway.com (“the website”) and its phone app. The website is run by Ortodox Way (“we”). The Orthodox Calendar mobile app has a separate privacy policy.
Summary

The website’s own statistics
To know which articles are read, we use Independent Analytics, a module that runs on our server without cookies. It records the page visited, the website you came from, your approximate country and city, the type of device, the operating system and the browser. Each visitor is represented by an anonymous code, and the IP address is not kept.
On our server and without identifiers we also record a few reading actions: reading an article almost to the end, clicks on recommended articles, use of the share buttons and the terms searched on the website. This data stays on our server.
Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics (only with your consent)
On your first visit we ask whether you accept analytics. If you accept, Microsoft Clarity is loaded, which records how the page is used (scrolling, clicks, active time) with text typed into forms masked, and Google Analytics runs fully. Both services use their own cookies or identifiers and are provided by Microsoft and Google respectively, which may also process data outside the European Union.
If you decline, Clarity is not loaded and Google Analytics stays in no-consent mode: it sets no analytics cookies and receives at most signals without identifiers. Your choice is kept in your browser for 270 days. You can change it at any time from the “Privacy settings” link at the bottom of the page.
Comments
When you leave a comment, we keep your name, email address, website (if you fill it in), the comment text, your IP address and browser type. Your email address is not published. Comments are moderated before publication and automatically checked for spam by the Akismet service (Automattic).
The Gravatar profile picture (Automattic) is shown next to comments; for this, a code derived from the email address is sent to the Gravatar service. If you tick the save option, your name and email address are kept in a cookie in your browser for future comments.
Contact form
Messages sent through the contact form (name, email address, message) reach us by email, together with the sender’s IP address and browser, so that we can reply and prevent abuse. We do not keep them in the website’s database.
Newsletter
The newsletter subscription is managed by MailerLite. Your email address and any other details entered in the form are kept by MailerLite and used only to send the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time from the link in every email. The sign-up form is loaded from MailerLite’s servers.
The OrthodoxWay app on your phone and notifications
If you install the website as an app on your phone, it keeps copies of the pages you read most recently on your device, for reading without internet. These copies stay on the phone only and are not sent to us.
If you turn on notifications for new articles, your phone’s browser sends us a technical notification address created by the manufacturer’s service (Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft), together with the related encryption keys and the chosen language. We use them only to tell you that a new article has been published. They contain no name, email address or other data that identifies you, and they are not linked to analytics data. You can turn notifications off at any time from the app menu (“Turn off notifications”), in which case the address is deleted immediately, or from your phone settings. Addresses that are no longer valid are deleted automatically.
Technical services
The website is hosted by Hostinger, which keeps technical server logs (IP address, requested page, date and browser) for security and operation. The website’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is sent to Google. The share buttons (Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram) are plain links and send nothing until you tap them.
Information saved in your browser
- your analytics choice (270 days);
- whether you closed the “Download the app” bar or answered the notifications question;
- your name and email address for comments, if you chose to save them;
- in the phone app, copies of recently read pages.
You can delete them at any time from your browser settings.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you can ask for access to the data concerning you, its correction or deletion and the restriction of processing, and you can object to processing. You can withdraw your consent to analytics at any time. You can write to us with any request at the address below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Romanian National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP) or with the data protection authority of the country where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the website changes. Any change will be published on this page together with the date of the update.
